Mentee

A reverse mentoring programme has the power to do wonders for a mentee both professionally and personally but it takes dedication and effort to be rewarding.

Here are some top tips to help you become a successful mentee:

Preparation is key

How you arrive at a mentoring session sets the tone and reflects your commitment to its success. Think about what you hope to gain from the session and come prepared to talk about it

Make a plan

Being proactive in the mentoring relationship will ensure success. Take notes and create actions plans that can help you hit your goals

Be the leader

As the mentee you should be the driver ensuring that you achieve your goals. The mentor will provide their expertise but your effort directly impacts your learning

Insightful questions

The most successful mentoring relationships are predicated on inquisitive questions. This allows you to make the most of your mentors knowledge and expertise

Seek feedback

At the start of a session be sure to reflect on your progress thus far, share your learnings with your mentor and be proactive in asking for feedback. Remember contructive feedback is an opportunity to improve

Role reversion

Traditional power dynamics can sometimes be difficult to shift. As the mentee the onus is on you to make the mentor feel comfortable enough to express themselves freely
